Hi! My name is Jacob, and I've been working at Nobel for about two and a half years now. Within the company, I work as a bunker skipper. This means I spend my days on the water, supplying ships with fuel and, when needed, delivering their ordered goods. It's a varied role with a lot of responsibility: not only do I ensure that each delivery is carried out safely and correctly, but I also represent Nobel to the customers on board. The personal contact with the crew and the dynamic nature of working on the water are what make this job so enjoyable for me.
No two days are the same ā one day you might be delivering to a large seagoing vessel or an oil platform, and the next to an inland ship while sailing at the same time. That variety, along with the freedom that comes with being a bunker skipper, makes me look forward to going to work every day.
Before I started at Nobel, my wife and I lived and worked on an inland vessel for 35 years as independent entrepreneurs. So, the maritime world truly runs in my veins.
At Nobel, my main responsibility is bunkering ships. This means I sail with one of our bunker vessels to supply ships with fuel ā whether they're en route or moored.
We also operate our own bunker station, the Tubantia, where ships can come alongside the quay to refuel with oil. That variety ā sometimes being out on the water, sometimes welcoming customers ashore ā makes the job very dynamic.
What I also enjoy is that my work goes beyond bunkering. When things are quieter on the water, I take on various other tasks within the company, such as painting, small repairs, or other maintenance work that needs to be done. It keeps me active and adds a lot of variety to my day. That's what makes this job not only meaningful but also very enjoyable.
To me, Nobel truly is a strong family-owned company. You can tell that over the years, the business has grown with a clear vision for the future ā and that's what has made it both large and resilient. At the same time, the atmosphere has remained down-to-earth and personal. What I really appreciate is the short lines of communication: if I have a question or need to discuss something, I can simply walk up to the director instead of going through layers of hierarchy. That makes working here much easier and more pleasant.
In my role, I also have a great deal of freedom. It sometimes feels almost like running my own small business within Nobel, and I really value that independence. I have the space to do my job well in my own way, while always knowing that support is there when needed. That combination of trust, freedom, and an open working environment makes me feel truly at home here.
The team here is very strong ā we truly look out for one another. If a mistake happens (and that can happen anywhere), no one points fingers. Instead, we solve it together, discuss how to improve next time, and then simply move forward. That builds trust and creates a safe and supportive working environment.
Communication is also very clear and open at Nobel. You always know what's expected of you, yet you have plenty of freedom to do your work in your own way. To me, that's a real sign of trust, and it makes working here very enjoyable. Add to that the friendly and collegial atmosphere, and you have all the ingredients for a workplace you genuinely enjoy coming to. That's why I believe Nobel is an excellent employer for many people.
